UNPACKING THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS FOR HIGH SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS

For students who have demonstrated exceptional volunteerism through significant community service. These awards are open to students in grades 5-12 who have made a meaningful impact in their communities through volunteer efforts.

These awards are for students in grades 5-12 who have positively influenced their communities through their volunteer service. he primary criterion for the scholarship is the outstanding nature of the volunteer project, including the time and dedication involved, as well as the positive outcomes of the work in the community. Projects are judged based on factors such as creativity, scope, and the lasting impact they have on others.

There are approximately 100 state honorees who receive recognition and a certificate, with the top state winnersadvancing to the national level, where they receive $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., along with other prizes. At the national level, additional recognition and monetary awards, including $5,000, are given to the most impactful projects.

You must be nominated by a school or a recognized youth organization, and the application involves submitting a detailed description of your volunteer activity and its impact. Two nominators are required: one from your school or organization and another person who can speak to the significance of your volunteer work. You do not have to wait to be nominated however; in our experience, most of the successful nominees have actually sought their nominators, asking teachers, community leaders, etc.

It should be noted that the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards emphasizes the long-term and meaningful contributions made to a community rather than short-term, one-time events. While the focus is on community service, projects can span a broad range of volunteer activities, including but not limited to, organizing local events, creating awareness for a cause, or developing initiatives that provide lasting benefits to society.

Applicants may also apply as a team of two (i.e., if you and a partner collaborate on a joint community service project). In this case, the application requirements and process are the same as for individuals, but both team members must be nominated and demonstrate a meaningful contribution to the project.
