ACHIEVING DREAMS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES: THE HAGAN SCHOLARSHIP

For high-achieving high school students who reside in rural counties with populations under 50,000, the Hagan Scholarship offers an extraordinary opportunity to pursue higher education. Each year, approximately 1,000 new scholarships are awarded, with each recipient eligible to receive up to $60,000 throughout their undergraduate studies. This generous program also comes with a unique requirement: recipients must complete 240 hours of paid work in the year prior to each academic term, encouraging responsibility and a strong work ethic.

What sets the Hagan Scholarship apart is its dedication to empowering students from rural communities who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements and a commitment to bettering their futures. Unlike many other scholarships, this program emphasizes the importance of giving back to one’s community while fostering financial independence and responsibility. In addition to the financial award, recipients receive practical support, including access to free workshops on personal finance and budgeting.

The scholarship program has positively impacted countless lives, as shared by previous recipients. One winner reflected, “Growing up in a small town, opportunities felt limited. The Hagan Scholarship not only gave me the means to attend college but also the tools to navigate life’s financial challenges.” Another scholar shared, “The work requirement taught me time management and resilience, preparing me for both college and my career.”

Recipients of the Hagan Scholarship typically come from diverse academic disciplines but share common characteristics of strong academic performance, leadership potential, and a commitment to their communities. Scholars often hail from economically modest backgrounds, with a household income of $100,000 or less, and are motivated to make the most of the opportunities afforded by this program.

To apply for the Hagan Scholarship, eligible students must meet the residency and income requirements, maintain academic excellence, and commit to the work requirement. Applications are typically due in the fall, with winners announced the following spring.
